I am a Licensed Master of Social Work in New York State focusing on social justice and politics. I earned my BA in History from SUNY Stony Brook University and an MSW from Adelphi University.
My first year internship was at FEGS; one of the largest human service agencies in New York State. At FEGS Il spent a year in the Continuing Day Treatment program working with clients living with persistent mental illness.
My second year internship was with Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth (LIGALY, which is now part of the Long Island GLBT Services Network). As an MSW intern I launched the first discussion group for Long Island’s bisexual community. Two months into my internship at LIGALY, I was hired as the Community Organizer for the Long Island Coalition for Same Sex Marriage, which was a program of LIGALY's that advocated for marriage equality. I eventually became Center Manager.
After becoming a Licensed Master of Social Work, I went on to work as a domestic violence advocate where I guided clients through the family and criminal court system by assisting them with obtaining orders or protection. The position required that me to work closely with law enforcement and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
Since 2012 I have run The Political Social Worker. A blog I created that covers community practice social work and politics.
